UPS is helping The Salvation Army transport vitally needed food and water to Haitians.

In a breaking update, The Salvation Army national headquarters just learned the “wheels are up” on our first “major” shipment of emergency supplies into Haiti following the devastating earthquake.

The flight, facilitated through UPS, left The Salvation Army warehouse in Miami where relief supplies are being staged and is expected to arrive in Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic at any moment. The supplies will then be trucked to Port-au-Prince and distributed by Salvation Army Relief Teams.

The shipment consists of 80,000 pounds of emergency food and water, including 20 pallets of food that will provide over 91,000 meals.  The remainder of the shipment consists of water packaged in ½ liter bottles and gallon jugs.

The generous contributions of donors, volunteers, and the American people have made this first major shipment of Salvation Army relief materials to Haiti.  More shipments are being scheduled to follow shortly.
