Now you can use your cell phones to donate to the relief effort in Haiti!

Simply text the word  ‘Haiti’ to 52000 to make a $10 donation.

It works nationally and with all carriers, and the  money will go directly to The Salvation Army’s World Service Office.

If you’re looking for a way to help but can’t be in Haiti to lend a hand, help the helpers. Monetary donations are the best way to support relief workers, and $10 can go a long way!

You can also donate through:

  • 1-800-SAL-ARMY
  • Postal mail at:

The Salvation Army World Service Office
International Disaster Relief Fund
PO Box 630728Baltimore, MD 21263-0728
*Please note that your donation is for Haiti Earthquake relief*

Digicel is also helping the effort and in all countries in the Caribbean where Digicel operates a number has been set up for text-to-help.

In Jamaica it is 4442452. The donation is JA$25 per text.

I will raise $100 in 24 hours if you can promise to make dontation public. I feel that if we donate, we should be able to see how many others have also and the grand total from text messages. I don’t believe anyone should make private donations public, but I would like to know exactly how much my contribution is worth. Thank you.

Lot of info on your site about texting. Many many people dont text. Had to search your site to get info on how to contribute without texting. Make it easier for people who dont text to contribute.

I sent the text to donate $10 and got an immediate response to confirm my donation and then got another immediate response to thank me for the donation. I feel very confident that my donation of $10 is going directly to people on the ground with the Salvation Army rescuing suffering humans. Thank you Salvation Army!

How does the billing work for texting a donation? Does the donation show up on my phone bill? Thank you.

  13. 16/01/2010

Yes, the $10 donation will be billed by your phone carrier. Once you send a donation via text, you will receive a message back asking you to confirm your donation. Thank you for your support!

    David,
do you have a text messaging plan included as a part of your service contract with your phone carrier? The text donation works with service carriers nationwide, but because the error message says it is unavailable with your “current service plan,” you may have to speak with your phone company about the options your individual plan allows. Otherwise, you can always donate by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY. Thanks for your support.
